Alabama police may have heard some creative explanations for truck crashes in their day, but none probably compares to an explanation given to the California Highway Patrol for a collision involving a semi-truck full of strawberries and multiple vehicles. The driver of the truck explained to officers that the reason he stole the vehicle and crashed it was because he was being chased -by zombies. The series of truck accidents involved a total of four other vehicles and also wrecked the semi truck.
The series of accidents began when a young man who had hitchhiked with a truck driver from Tennessee to California stole the truck as it was stopped at a check point and fled down the freeway. The driver collided with two vehicles at one point, seriously injuring two occupants and then collided with another two vehicles down the highway. At that point, the truck finally turned over and the driver escaped. He attempted to commandeer a van, but the driver was able to hold him for the police.
When officers arrived, they questioned the young man and found that he believed zombies were chasing him and clinging to the truck. They determined that he was under the influence of a drug that caused hallucinations. A total of five people were taken to area hospitals as a result of the crashes, and the young man was placed under arrest.
Victims of truck accidents may be entitled to compensation for their injuries. A personal injury lawyer may be able to help the victims recover these damages.
