If you’ve been in a serious accident or lost a loved one in a crash, it can be truly heartbreaking. In this news release, it was reported that two residents of Perkinston were killed when their pickup truck was hit by a Freightliner. According to the story, the accident, which took place in Mississippi, resulted in a third victim being transferred to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile with life-threatening injuries.
The accident on Mississippi 67 is one like others that you’ve probably heard of before; a Freightliner was moving along the highway, and the pickup truck was passing when it was struck. It’s not clear if the pickup or the truck driver was at fault, but the pickup was attempting to cross the southbound lane when it was hit. The driver of the Freightliner was also injured and had to be taken to Garden Park Hospital for his injuries. His vehicle left the roadway and overturned after the accident. The truck also leaked some diesel fuel onto the area, according to reports.
The victims have been identified in the accident as a 24-year-old male and 59-year-old woman from Perkinston. The third person in the truck survived the accident and was transferred to the hospital in Alabama for emergency treatment. The 24-year-old and 59-year-old people in the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
In cases like these, an investigation into what happened will likely occur to determine which party is at fault. Both parties suffered injuries and some people died, so it will be vital for the investigation to be thorough to determine if anyone should be charged for the fatal accident.
