Car crashes are difficult to suffer through at the best of times, and injuries can be very serious. In some cases, severe injuries can lead to a person’s wrongful death, and this is particularly tragic when it’s a child’s life that has been taken. A Feb. 23 report indicated that a child was killed and four others were injured in a two-car crash in Alabama allegedly caused by a 35-year-old driver. The Alabama State Troopers were on the scene to investigate.
Reports state that at 12:17 p.m., a 35-year-old woman was injured when she was driving and collided with a 2003 Jeep Liberty. The two women were driving on Interstate 85 near the 14-mile marker, according to the police. Multiple people were injured in the accident, and one child, an 11-year-old in the Jeep, was killed due to the extent of her wounds.
The 29-year-old woman driving the Jeep was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery with her 2-year-old daughter where they were being treated for their injuries. According to the story, a 12-year-old in the 35-year-old woman’s car was taken to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham due to the extent of her injuries as well. Unfortunately, the 11-year-old girl in the Jeep did not survive her injuries, and now her family will have to deal with this tragedy.
The Alabama State Troopers are still investigating to find out the cause of this accident, but they may place charges if negligence is discovered. Right now, they haven’t indicted any drug or alcohol use or speeding as a cause of the accident. In cases like these, it’s important for victims to understand that they still have rights, and there may be ways for them to seek compensation or to recoup costs.
