A motorcyclist was killed when a semi-truck apparently ran him over in Alabama. The truck driver stated that he did not see the cyclist. So far, the police have not released any other causes for the accident — such as the reason that the driver did not see him — though, it is worth noting that the accident happened as evening was falling, right around 8:30 at night. This was on Sept. 14, 2014.
It appears that the motorcyclist had already crashed on his own when he was hit by the truck. He was riding a Harley Davidson bike, and no reason has yet been given for the initial crash. However, the semi-truck was coming the opposite way down the highway, and the biker — and his bike — was still in the road. The semi then hit both the bike and the rider.
This accident took place on Alabama 123. It happened close to the mile marker nine, placing it to the north of Hartford by about seven miles.
The Alabama State Police are investigating the incident. While they have not reported the name or age of the truck driver, they did report that the biker was 38 years old.
For cases like this, it can take some time to sort through all of the specifics of fatal truck accidents. As the police do this work, it is important for the family members of anyone who was killed to keep an eye on their findings, as their decision about who was at fault could define what legal rights the family has.
