If you’re a fan of comedy, then you may be familiar with Tracy Morgan’s work. The popular celebrity was recently in a truck accident that nearly killed him and did kill one of the comedian’s longtime friends. The June 9 report describes the situation that led to his serious injuries, and it’s one you may be familiar with: tired, dangerous truck drivers. In Alabama, there are laws to prevent these tired drivers from being on the roads so they won’t cause truck accidents, and this is just one more case to prove the regulations’ worth.
The truck accident took place when the driver failed to slow down for traffic. Instead of stopping, he swerved at the last minute, and that led to his truck crashing into the Mercedes limo bus holding the comedian James McNair and Tracy Morgan. McNair was killed in the crash, and Morgan suffered severe injuries.
According to the criminal complaint about this accident, the truck driver who collided with Tracy Morgan’s limousine had allegedly gone without sleep for over 24 hours. The 35-year-old driver now faces charges including death by auto and assault by auto. Morgan is allegedly suffering from a broken femur, nose and ribs. He will have to remain in the hospital for several weeks, according to the reports.
The National Transportation Safety Board is now looking into this accident with the state police to determine if any issues in the crash were related to limousine or commercial trucking safety. The president of Wal-Mart, the company allegedly using the truck driver, has said that the company is willing to take full responsibility if the authorities can determine that the company’s truck caused the accident.
