The potential consequences of drinking and driving are well-known. However, people still make the decision to get behind the wheel of a car after consuming alcohol, causing alcohol-related crashes. Unfortunately, a reckless decision such as this can leave other innocent people suffering the consequences. One man in Alabama was recently arrested after police said he caused an accident that injured four people.
The accident happened at approximately 5 a.m. one morning in December. According to reports, a pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old man slammed into the back of a second truck. The collision allegedly sparked a chain-reaction, ultimately involving a total of five vehicles.
The driver of the second pickup truck, a 77-year-old man, was injured in the crash and transported to the hospital. Additionally, the driver of the first vehicle and two of his passengers were injured and required hospitalization. The younger driver now faces multiple charges, including first and second-degree assault. He is suspected of driving under the influence and has since been released after posting bail.
Those who are injured in alcohol-related crashes often face more difficulties than just those stemming from their physical injuries. As a result of hospital bills and wages missed when a person is unable to work, many suffer financially as well. When negligence can be proved — a claim that would be supported by a conviction of criminal charges related to an accident — many people seek recompense in an Alabama civil court. A successfully presented case often results in an award of damages that allows victims to cope with the expenses of injuries suffered as a result of another’s negligence.
