Most readers would likely agree that anything that can be done to reduce the number of people who drive while under the influence of alcohol is a good thing. As a result, there are multiple approaches taken to try to keep people from getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk. While law enforcement obviously plays a big role in this, other entities are taking a more technical approach.
The University of Alabama Center for Advanced Public Safety recently created a mobile app designed to help drivers make the right decision. Called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” the app, which is available for free download on all smart phones, makes it easy for a person to find another way to get home. In addition to allowing a user to contact a sober friend for a ride, it also makes it possible for the used to look up a taxi service anywhere in the state.
CAPS developed the mobile app with financial assistance from the Office of Highway Safety.
While an app of this nature might help some individuals refrain from driving while drunk, it will not work for everyone. When a driver who is intoxicated causes a car accident the outcome can be devastating. The aftermath of a serious car accident could leave those involved with a completely different life, possibly even disabled. The medical treatment necessary for someone who is in this situation can be overwhelming and result in medical bills that the injured person is unable to pay. A successful personal injury lawsuit may be of assistance to those who find themselves in this situation.
