Many of the worst truck accidents that occur on Alabama highways involve the big rigs. Eighteen-wheel tractor-trailers pose a huge threat just because of their sheer size. Negligent or reckless drivers can turn these vehicles into missiles of the road, and individuals in other vehicles tend to be the ones who pay the price in terms of serious injuries or wrongful death.
But even if the truck involved in an accident doesn’t happen to be a semitrailer, the injuries that can be inflicted can be serious. And if the vehicle happens to be owned by a commercial operation and is being driven by an employee of the company, it may be possible for victims to make an injury claim against the firm to compensate for the trauma suffered, medical bills and possible loss of income. It’s something that should be discussed with an experienced attorney.
This may be something that the family of a 16-year-old boy may be considering. That’s because earlier this month, the boy was reportedly struck and seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident. According to witnesses, the accident occurred Dec. 7 in Theodore. And the vehicle involved was a pickup truck.
Officials say the truck fled the scene after the accident. About a week later, an anonymous tip led authorities to a truck that matched the description. It was parked at a home about five miles from the crash site and further investigation indicated it was the hit-and-run vehicle.
Alabama State Troopers say the truck is owned by a Mobile car dealer and that a 32-year-old man who was employed by the dealership was subsequently arrested. At last word, he was being held without bond.
Troopers have not released details of the accident investigation.
