Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a critical warning regarding the airbags in some Honda and Acura vehicles. NHTSA says owners of these vehicles should not drive them unless the airbag has been replaced.
The chance of these airbags rupturing is as high as 50 percent. NHTSA urges owners to seek immediate replacement, which is free. The models included in this report are 2001 to 2003 Civics, Accords, Acura TLs, CR-Vs, Odysseys, Pilots and Acura CLs.

The dangers of defective airbags
The Takata airbag recall involves defective airbag inflators. The defect causes some airbags to rupture and propel metal shrapnel into drivers and passengers. Older vehicles in areas where there is high humidity are at increased risk of the airbag rupturing.
Victims of defective airbag ruptures may suffer serious or fatal injuries. To date, 10 people have died and hundreds suffered injuries as a result of Takata airbag ruptures.
