On Dec. 26, an Alabama community remembered a 48-year-old man who lost his life in a tragic car-pedestrian accident just days before the holiday. His family wants answers as they begin to process the loss of a man who many say was a well-loved member of the community.
On Dec. 21, authorities rushed to the scene of an accident after a pedestrian was hit by a car that fled the scene. The victim died on site. Although they now know who hit the man, the driver’s identity was not released to the public. The fatal wreck has been ruled an accident, and officials with the Montgomery Police Department stated that they were still looking into the case.
The victim’s mother explained that she first heard on the news that the driver involved had spoken with authorities and was later released. She doesn’t know why he was set free, as she believed her son was run over after men in the area had shot at each other. She claimed that the vehicle they shot at was speeding, and when it hit her son, he flew up in the air. She insists the driver fled the scene. The victim’s family expressed frustration at the lack of information they have received about the investigation. His mother said she wants justice and believes the motorist should be charged criminally.
After someone’s death in a traffic accident, the responsible party might not face criminal charges. However, a personal injury lawyer might be able to pursue civil litigation to hold those involved accountable for their actions and to seek compensation. A family may be able to file a case for wrongful death of their loved one.
