There could be a dangerous fuel pump issue in approximately 136,057 Honda and Acura vehicles in the U.S. American Honda is recalling those vehicles, all of them 2018, 2019 and 2020 models, due to a fuel pump that may have been exposed to solvents during the manufacturing process.
If the pump was exposed to the solvents, it could crack and ultimately fail. This could lead to a sudden loss of power or stall, which could cause the car to crash.
In a press release, Honda said that it has not received any reports of injuries or crashes due to the defective pump. However, it encourages owners to schedule a free replacement for the pump as soon as possible. Recall notification letters will go to owners in late July.
Which vehicles are being recalled?
According to Consumer Reports, there are nine models affected:
- 2018-2019 Acura NSX
- 2019 Acura RDX
- 2019 RLX and RLX Sport Hybrid
- 2018-2019 Honda Accord
- 2018-2019 Honda Civic Hatchback
- 2018-2019 Honda Civic Type R
- 2019 Honda Fit
- 2018-2019 Honda HR-V
- 2019-2020 Honda Insight

Although this fuel pump issue has yet to cause a serious crash, the potential hazard is real and you should consider avoiding driving your vehicle until the pump can be replaced.
